Bestämmelser om arbetsrådets uppgifter finns i lagen om arbetsrådet och om vissa tillstånd till undantag inom arbetarskyddet (400/2004). Enligt 7 § i den lagen har arbetsrådet till uppgift att avge utlåtanden om tillämpningen och tolkningen av arbetstidslagen, semesterlagen, arbetarskyddslagen och lagen om unga företagare.
