26.3.2026 | Under the Government’s proposal, the obligation to produce sustainability reports would only apply to large companies. Going forward, the reporting obligation would only apply to companies with a turnover of over EUR 450 million that employ more than 1,000 people. As a result, the number of companies subject to the reporting obligation in Finland would fall from 1,300 to 130.

28.9.2023 | On 28 September 2023, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal for amending the Accounting Act, the Auditing Act and certain related acts. The proposed acts would implement the EU-Directive on corporate sustainability reporting.

12.6.2023 | The European Commission has published draft standards for companies on reporting on the sustainability of their operations. The deadline for submitting comments to the European Commission is 7 July 2023. The standards are based on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The Directive requires national legislative amendments which are being prepared by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

10.3.2022 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the amendment to the Accounting Act. The legislative amendment will make it easier for the authorities to determine whether foreign companies should pay taxes in Finland. The reform of the Accounting Act is one of the Government’s measures to combat the grey economy. 

18.11.2021 | On 18 November 2021, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend the Accounting Act. The amendment aims to make it easier for Finnish authorities to determine whether foreign companies have business activities in Finland and whether they are liable to pay taxes in Finland.

16.12.2021 | Amendments to the Trade Register Act and the Business Information Act will take effect in August next year. The amendments will update the Acts to comply with two EU Directives. Trade register data will move more easily between EU Member States in future. In addition, a electronic trade register extract will become free of charge through a decree amendment.
