11.9.2025 | The economic prospects of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have improved slightly from last spring, the most recent SME Barometer shows. The outlook is also more positive than a year ago, driven by low inflation and falling interest rates. The challenging situation of construction companies, in particular, appears to be easing.

Målet är att statens begränsade resurser används så effektivt som möjligt.

A clear exit strategy is needed to abolish the more flexible state aid rules. According to the annual report of the Research Division on Business Subsidies published on 17 May 2023, R&D activities should be expanded to more sectors and aid policy should be targeted more efficiently in order to achieve the R&D objectives.

According to the SME Barometer published on 11 February 2025, the challenging situation of companies in the retail sector is gradually easing.

9.3.2022 | An action plan published by the European Commission on 8 March 2022 sets the objective of achieving independence from Russian energy by the end of the decade. We can immediately change suppliers of many fuels. However, a long-term transformation will require major investments in energy and industrial facilities as well as transmission lines. At the same time, we must accept that the change will have an effect on energy prices.

7.9.2023 | The purpose of the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP) is to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy by supporting the development of critical technologies and products. Another aim is to ensure the availability of necessary labour and skills in strategic sectors. While the Finnish Government supports the facility’s objective, it does not endorse a completely new EU-level financial instrument.

According to the new SME Barometer, company expectations have recovered from the exceptionally negative spring to the same levels as a year ago as the effects of the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine have stabilised.
