Recently published scenarios show that we have a bumpy road ahead to climate neutrality. These scenarios also help us to grasp the magnitude of the climate challenge. To meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement on climate change, we need to take determined action to reduce greenhouse gases. As an interim target for reaching climate neutrality by 2050, the EU wants to tighten the emission reduction target from 40% to at least 55% by 2030. Although it seems that the EU will exceed the original target, this constitutes a major change. In particular, the way emission reductions are implemented has a major impact on how much the transition will cost and how these costs will be distributed between countries.

The strategy will contain a common view of the raw material supply situation in the minerals sector and industry as well as main policies and their objectives. The work primarily aims to promote the growth of the Finnish mineral cluster in order to strengthen the clean transition and Europe’s strategic autonomy. Another objective is to increase the value added of the raw materials from the mining industry.
