5.6.2025 | The current legislation on regional development and the EU’s structural policy supports the objectives, but implementation should be more cost-effective in future. The Government submitted a report on the subject to Parliament on 5 June 2025. The report evaluated how well and effectively the system and funding of regional development functions. 7.11.2025 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will hold a public consultation from 7 to 23 November 2025 on a draft government decree setting out provisions on a government grant, which the employment authorities could use to help companies hire unemployed young people under the age of 30. This grant is also known as the employment voucher or recruitment subsidy. It would be awarded to businesses to cover half of the young person’s salary for six months.

16.1.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has drawn up a Government Integration Programme for 2024–2027. The programme includes 32 measures based on the Government Programme. Integration policy is based on the learning of Finnish or Swedish, employment, familiarisation with Finnish society and compliance with its rules.

31.1.2024 | The REACT-EU additional funding allocated to regions and sectors most affected by the coronavirus pandemic has largely met the long-term development needs of companies and entrepreneurs. 26.6.2025 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has sent out for comments the draft of the new Nuclear Energy Act. Primarily, the new act aims to ensure that the use of nuclear energy is in line with the overall good of society, that the operations are safe and that nuclear waste generated in Finland is handled properly.

23.4.2020 | On 23 April 2020, the Government submitted a proposal to Parliament to extend the maximum duration of start-up funding and to increase flexibility in the periodic interviews of jobseekers conducted by TE Offices. The proposal also includes changes to the entitlement of jobseekers to unemployment security. These temporary changes are proposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and are scheduled to enter into force on 1 May 2020.

24.11.2022 | On 24 November 2022, the Government authorised the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment to make on its behalf a EUR 200 million gratuitous investment in the Climate Fund’s reserve of unrestricted equity. The capitalisation would occur in one instalment in 2022.

27.5.2025 | The working group on non-fossil flexibility appointed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has released its final report. According to it, flexible demand for and supply of electricity as well as various energy storages will be necessary to respond to the challenges of rapidly fluctuating electricity generation driven by increasing renewable energy production.

1.9.2022 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has granted municipalities EUR 3 million to develop guidance and counselling services for immigrants. The subsidies were awarded to 21 projects implemented by municipalities, which aim to improve the integration and employment of immigrants. 

9.11.2023 | The Government has decided to grant Kymenlaakso a total of EUR 6 million to mitigate the impact of sudden structural change. The region is looking for new growth in the battery and food sectors, in particular. In all, the development package for Kymenlaakso amounts to ca. EUR 9 million.

1.9.2022 | The measures taken in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will support economic growth that is socially, economically and ecologically sustainable. The key objectives include ensuring a predictable investment environment, promoting productivity growth and full use of available labour, supporting clean technology investments and improving energy self-sufficiency.
