23.3.2023 | The President of the Republic approved the amendments to the Mining Act on 23 March 2023. The amendments will give local residents more influence and increase business prospects and environmental considerations.

9.9.2025 | The three/six-month rule, which entered into force in June 2025, determines the amount of time during which foreign workers need to find a new job, if their previous employment relationship has ended prematurely. However, the rule has a more limited effect than assumed. For example, the rule does not apply to international students looking for work after graduating from a Finnish higher education institution.

22.12.2025 | The acts regulating the powers of national authorities supervising the provisions of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act will enter into force on 1 January 2026. The President of the Republic approved the legislative amendments on the proposal of the Government on 22 December 2025.

20.7.2020 | At the informal meeting of the EU competitiveness ministers on 21 July 2020, ministers responsible for research and innovation will discuss the EU’s ability to use research and innovation as a tool to address the current and future challenges in society. Three EU initiatives proposed by the German Presidency will serve as a basis for these discussions. State Secretary Kimmo Tiilikainen will represent Finland at the meeting on behalf of Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

10.12.2019 | During 2020–2021, Finland will provide European citizens with free access to a successful online course, the Elements of AI. The course will be made available in all the official EU languages. This initiative by the Finnish Presidency aims to respond to the challenges posed by the transformation of work and to reinforce the digital leadership of the EU.
